occupational therapy
advice and services

Accident, illness and ageing can make daily living activities such as bathing and dressing a real challenge, putting our independence and sense of identity at risk.  But an occupational therapist can make these everyday activities a little easier with training and advice on making the most of our homes so that we feel better supported, now and into the future.

In addition to reviewing all our ageless design recommendations, our in-house occupational therapist offers a range of services including:

Assistance with the purchase of significant cost equipment

Our OT will visit you at home to help you with the purchase of significant items that are critical to the quality of your everyday life and are therefore essential to get right.  Based on an assessment of your needs and circumstances, she will provide a shortlist of appropriate options and liaise with the suppliers on your behalf to demonstrate their equipment and secure the purchase.

This might include the specification of wheelchairs, stair-climbers, walkers,
rise-and-recliner chairs and profiling beds.

Bathroom assessment

Our OT will visit you at home to identify ways to improve your safety and independence in your bathroom. This will include an assessment of your current abilities, recommending techniques and identifying equipment and/or adaptations to enhance the support and safety of your bathroom.

This could be as simple as recommending the installation of well-placed grab rails and assisting with the purchase of a suitable bathlift to arranging for the demonstration and installation of an integrated bidet toilet or complete bathroom refit.

Comprehensive home assessment

Our OT will visit you at home to assess your current functional requirements within the main living areas of your home: access into and around the house, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and reception room and liaise with care providers and family members for a holistic picture of your individual needs.  Based on this assessment, clients will receive a report detailing areas of concern and providing recommendations for a safer, more supportive home environment.

Our occupational therapy services focus on clients in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Services are charged at £50 per hour, with total cost agreed in advance. Additional basic travel expenses may apply.

Our occupational therapist will work alongside any professionals already engaged in supporting our clients. She will also facilitate referrals to additional services, provided through the NHS and social services, where appropriate.

We also work closely with some excellent private home care providers such as Bluebird Care and Lynedoch Care, so that together we can provide a complete ageing-in-place solution.
